Initial Entrance to Al Bayt Stadium

Twenty four years ago as an Undergraduate French student at the University of Tulsa, I thought to myself, “How cool would that be to attend the World Cup in France.” After a smattering of emails to World Cup organizers in France, the idea of serving as an English speaking volunteer fizzled out. Yet, when my wife and I recruited for international teaching positions, positions became available for us in Qatar. Honestly, we didn’t know where Qatar was in the Middle East. But when we accepted these positions, the goal was to remain in Qatar at least four years to live in one of most compact tournaments in history. Now, our family finds ourselves living just a day away from World Cup Qatar.
