Web Logs
Back in 2004, Nadine and I decided to travel the world for a year. This would occur after she got smarter and completed her Graduate school from Trinity University. From that moment on every weekend, we researched countries and routes, planned, and organized a couple of hours every Friday and/or Saturday night at the Barnes and Noble at the Alamo Quarry Market in San Antonio. Cheap entertainment at its finest.
While I spent a year volunteering with the great folks in Peru and Bolivia with the Christian Brothers, I would send out random emails to family and friends about life in South America. Leading up to our around the world departure, I figured I would take those same updates and post them on “web logs”. I’d keep those same family and friends, and even a few random folks, updated of our global travels. So Tulsatrot originated from my desire to share stories, jokes, and cultural insight from these travels. I’ve tried to maintain the blog with every trip since then. It not only serves as a means to share stories, but even more importantly, as vivid memories and stories for Nadine and I, especially when we get older and can’t remember each other’s name. Also, our four great kids might want to learn more about their fantastic parents.
So Why the Name Tulsatrot?
But why the word “Tulsatrot”? Tulsatrot is a blended word combining my fondness for my “education” at the University of Tulsa and the essence of a globetrotter. TU was the school where Nadine and I met while studying abroad in the poutine crazed province of Quebec. The second word was globetrotter. I figured I would steal Tulsa and trot and create the blended word “Tulsatrot”. Thus, the name.
Little did I know at the time that Tex Williams and His Western Caravan wrote a song called “Tulsa Trot” long before I was globetrotting. I guess my blended word isn’t as original as I had thought.
And with that, you have Tulsatrot.
