Moving to a new country and getting settled is a process. Our process has been a bit stressful. The kids haven’t started school. It’s super hot outside in this Middle Eastern sun. And entertainment options revolve around air conditioned malls.
Souq Waqif
The entire time though, Sophie has been patient. The one thing this artistic and creative girl has wanted is a henna tattoo. A plant that stains the skin like a tattoo, but last about a week. One of the most popular sites to visit is Souq Waqif in downtown Doha close to the Corniche. I figured Souq Waqif would be a good spot for a henna tattoo.
When Sophie and I arrived downtown at 6:30 in the evening, the temperature was only 97 degrees. The real feel temperature was 113. On a side note, I will first measure every temperature this year with the actual temp and then the “real feel” temp. The air in the Souq Waqif (souq means market in Arabic) was heavy with damp, hot air and a simple walk left clothes clinging to our bodies.
Henna
In the middle of the souk and heat, a woman diligently painted henna tattoos. A huge smile immediately came to Sophie’s face as she got her henna tattoo at Souq Waqif. Once the paste dried and had a day to stain her skin, the final result was a pretty cool design atop both of her hands.
