A New Year’s Resolution
Every January, people around the world, in a sense of self improvement, create personal goals. Eat better. Lose weight.
My 2020 goal is be more present. Present to my wife. Present to my kids. Present to the people around me. A type of digital detox.
In the past, I professed that I would never buy a cellphone (lost that one dollar bet to my sister). Now I have had one for four years and I have noticed the changes. I still don’t like those smartphones.
A colleague of mine went to a retreat in Cambodia over the Christmas break, and the goal was simply to digitally detach and be present. And I guess stretch and meditate a little bit under the Southeast Asian trees. She came back aware and taken back by the constant posture of people looking at their phones.
So You Want Your Very Own Qatari Postcard?
Thus, I’m doing the following. I’ll mail anyone, anywhere in the world, a handwritten postcard from Qatar if you do the following (and postcards are hard to find in Qatar):
1) Stay off phone for 4 hrs one day (not while sleeping)
2) Do something nice for someone. Big, small, doesn’t matter
3) Comment below and subscribe to the blog
Another goal of mine is to run 150 miles, cycle 450 miles, and swim 80,000 this year.
And eat better.
And lose weight.
And read more books.
And compete on Survivor.

I also want to lose weight and get fitter this year, although I’m not sure if having a blog is the best recipe for digital detox!
I completely agree with you unlatinoverde. A blog serves the opposite to a digital detox. I will send you a message and if you want, I will send you a postcard in the mail from Qatar.
Great post! I hope your wife`s wish will come true 🙂
